Master Recycler Training
Thurston County is seeking residents to help spread the word about the benefits of waste reduction, reuse and recycling. In exchange for 18 hours of free training, participants agree to spend 36 hours during the following year working as community volunteers. Master Recyclers can participate in a wide range of county waste reduction activities, or work in their own neighborhoods, schools, or workplaces to encourage waste reduction and recycling.

The county will train each “Master Recycler” volunteer how to become a community resource on solid waste issues, such as waste reduction, recycling, and composting.

The spring course will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, February 27 through March 26, 2008. The classes will be held at the Thurston County Roads and Transportation Services offices at 2404 Heritage Court S.W. in Olympia. The group also will meet from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, March 8 and March 22, for field trips to a local recycling facility, compost demonstration garden, and the Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center. To become a Master Recycler, participants must attend all six sessions.
